The Regiment of the Black & Tans celebrated their 35th anniversary in high style, Saturday September 12, 2009, at the stately Los Angeles Athletic Club in Downtown LA.
The Regiment's over 150 invited guests looked resplendent in their uniforms and representatives of clubs and organizations throughout the Southland and from as far away as San Francisco, Palm Springs, New Orleans and Washington DC were present. The theme was "Stepping Up and Stepping Out" as the men of The Regiment stepped up to the community by holding the gala as a benefit for Project Angel Food, also holding a big anniversary the same night (20), and honoring community leaders Charlie Matula (Eagle LA owner), Hunter Fox (Eagle LA manager) and John Clifton (Pistons Long Beach owner.)
At the same time, The Regiment definitely stepped out in high style with the evening beginning on the LAAC rooftop with cocktails, appetizers and mellow latin jazz followed by more cocktails downstairs while a silent auction and fabulous raffle were being held and a harpist entertained the attendees. As the doors to the grand style Main Dining Room were opened, the guests were welcomed by international leather celebrity Frank Nowicki who served as Master of Ceremonies and host.
Commander of The Regiment, Jon Wright, presided over the program of awards and presentations, including Certificates of Congratulations from the City of Los Angeles for the Regiment and each of the three honorees. After that, the raffle winners names were drawn (Grand Prize was an all expense trip for two from LA to New Orleans for Southern Decadence 2010 and the second prize was a custom leather uniform courtesy of Rough Trade and the Eagle LA.)
Finally, the gentlemen returned to the roof to continue the party into the night with cocktails, cigars and cookies. Representatives from Project Angel Food were delighted with the evening and will receive the net proceeds of the silent auction and raffles.
